At Timber Lake, we're small enough to know you
but we've got things to show you!
Timber Lake (pop. 434) was founded in 1910 when the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation was opened to homesteading. Since then, a strong community spirit and "can do" attitude have helped the community survive and prosper. Livestock and grain provide the base for the local economy, which also includes small manufacturing, recreation and home-based businesses. Timber Lake is the county seat of Dewey County and a center for retail trade and government services. And it's located in the heart of some of the best hunting and fishing country you'll ever find.

Volunteers from Minneapolis
Volunteers from Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis visited the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation last week to help with the Habitat for Humanity house being built for Connie and Tipton Marshall and family at Glencross and to work with kids at the Sioux YMCA at Dupree. They “camped” at the Timber Lake Community Center. Before they left they lined up for this photo with the Timber Lake sign.
