Gertrude Tomac, 96, of Lemmon, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon.

Funeral services for Gertie were held Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lemmon. Fr. Adam Hofer officiated with burial at the Morristown Cemetery at Morristown.

Gertie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Don (Rhonda) Tomac of Keldron; two daughters, Lois Burch of Belle Fourche and Diane Hussey of Oral; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mary Herber, Alice Hodges and Ruth Roesler (who passed away May 3, 2024).

Gertrude Helen was born on June 6, 1927 to Harry and Helen (Hoyt) Anderson at Dupree. She was the second of eleven siblings that grew up near Glad Valley.

On June 6, 1947, Gertie was united in marriage to Emil Tomac at Morristown. In January of 1948 they rented a place near Isabel for a year and in the fall of 1949 they returned to the Tomac homestead. They purchased the Jake Dietterle place in 1951 where they farmed and ranched together and raised their family. In the fall of 1993, Emil and Gertie moved into Lemmon.

Gertie was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In her early years she was a school teacher, later becoming a homemaker. In 2005 she and Emil were Boss Cowman honorees during Lemmon’s annual celebration.

Gertie enjoyed playing board games, and putting puzzles together with her grand and great-grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emil; two sonsin- law, Gary Burch and Dave Hussey; four sisters, Rozella Anderson, Ann Hodges, Gladys Zulauf and Darlene Wahl; and three brothers, Clifford, Roy and David Anderson.
