Calvin passed away on February 9, 2014 after a short battle with cancer and went to join his wife, Maxine, who preceded him in death. Calvin Lavern Kahl was born to Keith Lavern and Cora Lena (McIntyre) Kahl on February 5, 1946 in Lewellan, NB. Calvin lived in Nebraska until 1960 when the family moved to a farm south of Isabel. He graduated from Isabel High School in 1964 and attended radiology technician school in Minneapolis, MN. He spent several years working as a radiology tech in Sleepy Eye, MN before enlisting in the United States Army in 1970. Calvin served his country as an Army Medic in Vietnam and was honorably discharged from Fort Riley, KS in 1974. Upon discharge, Calvin returned to the farm in South Dakota to help his father and worked as a driver for United Parcel Service. Calvin married Maxine Valentine in Webster on September 13, 1975 and they joined Keith and Lena on the farm. Calvin continued to work as a radiology technician in the Isabel Community Clinic until the early 1980’s. Calvin and Maxine welcomed daughters Nicolle Marie in 1977 and Merretta Lynn in 1981. Calvin served on the Isabel School Board but will be remembered more for the countless hours at the scorer’s table for the Isabel Wildcats, something he took great pride in. He also very much enjoyed the miles he logged driving school bus for Isabel School. He is survived by his daughters, Nicolle Kahl Hendrix of Fairbanks, AK and Merretta (Chance) Anderson of Isabel; and one sister, Brenda Jensen of Duluth, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Cora Lena Kahl, and his wife, Maxine. (Maretta Anderson’s address is HC83 Box 15, Isabel, SD 57633.)
