Burial was in the Eagle Butte Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Steve passed away June 28, 2014 at Prince of Peace Retirement Community in Sioux Falls. He was a lifelong resident of Eagle Butte with the exception of the past six years when he lived in Sioux Falls. Steve was born in Eagle Butte on February 5, 1925 to Louis and Hedwica Shupick. He led a full life with his many activities and farm and ranch life. He loved his bride Jeanne for 66 years. He was especially proud of his ten children and all of his grandchildren. Steve was a member of All Saints Parish his entire life. He was a proud Parish Board member when the new church was built. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus, Council Number 6537 since 1944. He achieved the status of Grand Knight and served in that role for five years. He served two years as the State District Deputy and has remained a life long honorary member. He was an Eagle Butte 20-1 School District Board member for 17 years and was instrumental in getting the new school built. He served as Eagle Butte Co-op Board member for 15 years, and Dewey County Extension Board member for 10 years. He served three years on the FHA board, 15 years with the Green Grass Telephone Company board and over 30 years on the Dewey County election board. Steve never saw a sport he didn't like and was the time keeper for school sporting events for over 35 years. It was amazing how he could watch a basketball game and keep an eye on the door in case one of his kids left the game for outside activities. He is survived by his wife Jeanne and children— Sharon (John) Lawson, Stephen Shupick, Jr., Richard (Katherine) Shupick, Thomas (Wanda Brown) Shupick, Cheryl (Jim) Ferguson, Francis (Judy) Shupick, Charles (Wendy) Shupick, Mark (Darla) Shupick, Marie (Scott) Marks, and Michael (Shana) Shupick; grandchildren Jenny Lawson Farrugia, Jason Lawson, Tom Lawson, Richard Shupick, Christopher Shupick, Jeremy Shupick, Vanessa Shupick Gregson, Denise Shupick Amundson, Sean Huset, Chelsey Shupick Aisenbrey, Megan Shupick Hooker, Heather Shupick, Matthew Shupick, Macy Shupick, Alec Knight, Nikki Knight, Markus Knight, Marissa Moran, Jaycee Marks, Trevor Marks, Tregg Marks, Brandon Shupick, Taylor Shupick and Jordyn Shupick; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Hedwica Shupick, his sister Mary and granddaughter, Stephanie Jean. Pall bearers were Bud Neigel, Dick Zacher, Francis Zacher, Bob Berndt, Gerald Stapert and Joe Bowman. Honorary pallbearers were all his friends near and far, as he never met a stranger.
