October 20, 1942 - July 25, 2014.

The funeral service for John Kougl, 72, of North Pole, AK was held on July 30, 2014 at Chapel of Chimes in Fairbanks, AK. John William Kougl was born October 20, 1942 in Mobridge to William Alfred Kougl and Patricia Anne Kougl. He graduated from Timber Lake High School in 1960. John started his collegiate career at Minnesota State University - Mankato where he studied business and played college football. He received his accounting certificate at a business school in Sioux City, IA. Those who knew John knew him as an entrepreneur, teacher, and selftaught carpenter. He was charismatic, wise, and hard working. He was rough around the edges but never passed judgment on those he met and thus had relationships with people from all walks of life. He always had room at his table for one more. He took the hard road through life but with the Kougl grit and determination, he never stopped. He handed the Kougl spirit down to each of his children, who were always first and foremost in his heart. He may have moved on to a better place, but he still lives through his family. He is survived by his children—Patrick, Jody, Michael, Jeannette, Jamie, Jacqueline, Joanie, Jessica, Mary Jo, Jomarie, and Josie Jane; 23 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; siblings— Nancy Deckert of Mobridge, and Albert Kougl and Marcia O’Leary of Timber Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter JeanMarie and a son Joseph; a brother Donald Kougl; and two infant sisters, Jeanette and Donna. (Marcia O’Leary’s address is
