Mass of Christian Burial for Lois M. Aberle, 63, of Mobridge was held Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mobridge. Burial was at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home.
Lois passed away Thursday, October 9, 2014 at her home. Lois Marie Sunderland was born October 27, 1950 to Ernestine (Landis) and Leslie Sunderland in Mobridge, the second of two children. She graduated from Mobridge High School.
On May 25, 1974 she was married to Leo J. Aberle in Mobridge. They moved with their two daughters, Kristi and Jody, to rural Glencross. A daughter Suzanne was added to the family while living in Glencross. They raised their family in McIntosh and Java before moving to Pierre in 1998. Leo passed away in May, 2012. Lois moved back to Mobridge in 2013.
Lois worked at various jobs and made many lifelong friends wherever she went. She loved spending time with her friends and family. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards, and her Diet Coke. She treasured the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. Lois is survived by her daughters— Kristi Aberle (Gabe Cummings) of Rapid City and her children Meghyn and Mitch; Jody (Norman) Siebrecht of Redfield and their children Trevor, Seth and Jensyn; and Suzanne (Max) Wetz of Bismarck, ND; one brother Les (Lynne) Sunderland of Arlington, VA.; her father-in-law, Leo A. Aberle of Glencross; brothers- and sisters-in-law— Pauline Schmidt of Willow Lake, Louise (Bob) Lewis of Manila, AR, Janice (Les) Mandernach of Selby, Tom (Diana) Aberle of Glencross, John Aberle of Selby, Joel Aberle of Aberdeen, Mary (Dennis) Simons of St. Lawrence, Harvey Aberle of Billings, ND, Andy Aberle of Glencross, Irene (Wade) Moffat of Piedmont, OK, Jerry (Annie) Aberle of Clear Lake, Kenny (Criss) Aberle of Mobridge, and Carol Aberle of Aberdeen; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Leo J. Aberle; her mother and step-father, Ernestine and Ruben Renz; her father, Leslie Sunderland; mother-in-law Magdalene Aberle; and brothers-in-law, Art Aberle and Roger Schmidt.
