Dewey County considering reduction in property tax

Sometime in the next few months the Dewey County Commission will decide whether to continue the “opt out” of property taxes that has been in place for the past 10 years.

The commission implemented the $215,000 per year additional tax levy in 2008 and it expires at the end of this year for taxes payable in 2018.

“Some of these taxes are getting too high,” Commissioner John Meginness of Isabel said, noting that some land is taxed at $5.00 an acre ($800 a quarter section).
