Timber Lake Middle School (This is one of the winning essays in the American Legion Auxiliary’s Americanism essay contest. Dan is the son of Leah Peterson, a teacher at Timber Lake Elementary School.) If we can promote Americanism, we can have a better country. If we can have a better country, we can have a simpler life.

If we had an easier life we wouldn’t have as many bad things happen in our country. If we promote Americanism in our school and community we can help others that want to promote Americanism all around. If I can promote Americanism in my school and community everyone will want to promote Americanism. I could bring a veteran to our school and ask them to tell us about the story. I can get to know a veteran and tell people around my community about the veteran. I could tell everyone the interesting story and what they did to help this country in service. I can also hold a door open, say thank you, or greet him, and tell the veteran “thank you” and be polite to the veteran.
