Father, son meet for first time

Zane Arpan of Eagle Butte never knew he had a Vietnamese son, but My Tran, who lives in Oklahoma City with his wife and two children, always knew he had an American father. The two met last week, just a few days before Father’s Day, thanks to the wonders of DNA. On the evening of August 29, 2017, Cheryl Maxwell Randall, a second cousin of Zane’s, got a

“hit” on her AncestryDNA account. My Tran, someone she had never heard of, was a close match for her on the Claymore branch of her family tree. My Tran told Cheryl he was born in Vietnam in 1968, had been living in Oklahoma City for more than 20 years, and had recently sent his saliva sample to AncestryDNA in hopes that he could find his American soldier father.
