Shirley passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Renner. Shirley was born to Carl and Bessie Schlomer on August 5, 1940 in Mobridge. She attended school at Wakpala and the Northwestern Lutheran Academy. She married Earl Burns on March 10, 1957, and helped him haul hay until Machelle came along in 1963 and John Carl in 1965. In 1966 they moved to the Leo Schirber farm where they farmed and raised cattle. In 1974 Earl got involved with the new Klein Museum. They continued to farm and run the museum until 1983, when they purchased the Bridge City Florist. They moved to town and Shirley ran the flower shop until they sold it in 2007. She continued to work in the flower shop until 2008. She worked at the Mobridge-Polloc School in the kitchen for awhile and then went back to the flower shop under new managers, Bob and Melissa Durbin, who treated her like family. She worked at the flower shop until December 2017 when, due to health problems, she moved to Sioux Falls to live with her daughter. She is survived by her daughter Machelle (Gary) Dierkson; granddaughter Kayla; step-granddaughter Kelly; greatgrandchildren Savannah, Allie, Trevor and Malakye; sisters Pearl (Sid) Haux and Carla Jund; brothers, Delvin (JoAnn) Schlomer and Cordie (Marlys) Schlomer; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Earl in 2014, son John Carl, and sister Betty.
