The root of suffering

It has been said that pain and suffering are a part of the human condition. While it may be true that pain is inevitable, the degree to which we have to suffer because of it is largely within our own control.

That may seem a surprising statement, but if you think about it, it’s true especially regarding the subject of mental suffering. Anger, frustration, anxiety, insecurity, jealousy, depression, fear, sadness, worry and a thousand other difficult to handle emotions are all a form of mental suffering. We have all experienced this kind of suffering, as well as the negative impact it has on our lives when we allow ourselves to stay locked in that cycle of thinking.
