The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe’s six-member Telecommunications Commission has announced details of new licensing requirements for all telecommunications providers on the reservation.

Ordinance 73, which was initially proposed in 2007 by J.D. Williams, then manager of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Telephone Authority, and presented to Tribal Council. The Telecommunications Commission never became active until 2018 at which time they reviewed and revised the ordinance with the Tribe’s legal counsel.

The revised ordinance was approved by Tribal Council and applies to all providers within the boundaries of the reservation (Dewey and Ziebach counties).
