Timber Lake fiber project may get state GOED funds

A meeting in Pierre on Tuesday focused on the possibility of some state funds being allocated for the CRST Telephone Authority’s fiber optic project to bring high speed internet to Timber Lake.

District 28 Sen. Ryan Maher (R-Isabel) said at the legislative forum in Timber Lake on March 1 that the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) was anticipating $5 million from Gov. Noem’s proposed budget for broadband expansion and that the Timber Lake project was “at the top of the list” because the infrastructure (SDN installed) is in place. He mentioned $200,000, to be leveraged against federal funds.
