The South Dakota Limousin Association selected Dean Schrempp of Lantry as their 2019 Commercial Producer of the Year. He was honored at the South Dakota Limousin annual meeting, banquet and benefit auction at the Ramkota Best Western Hotel in Rapid City on January 31.

Dean and his late wife, Mavis, began ranching in Dewey County in the 1950s. He and his five sons are continuing the ranch operation and currently run about 1,000 cows on 20,000 acres of land. All the cows with the exception of three are home raised. They are a spring-calving ranch that sells their production either at Fort Pierre or by private sales. In the past, Wulf Cattle of Morris, MN utilized the Schrempp calves in their feedlots.

The Schrempp family has used strictly Limousin bulls from Schott Limousin of McLaughlin and Wulf Cattle. Since 1975, the Schrempps have purchased close to 800 Limousin bulls.
