Benedict “Benny” Sylvester Iron Thunder Sr.

Graveside services for Benedict “Benny” Iron Thunder Sr., 62, of Mandan, ND, were held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the Watauga Cemetery in Watauga. Pastor Tottie Lenerville officiated.

Benedict Sylvester Iron Thunder Sr., was born on March 2, 1957 to Theodore Iron Thunder and Margaret White Bird in Fort Yates, ND. He was raised in Bullhead and north of Bullhead. He enjoyed working on the farm until moving with his family to McIntosh, in 1976. He attended school in McIntosh.

In 1977 he met Sherry Little Bear and to that union a son, Benedict Sylvester Iron Thunder Jr., was born on May 25, 1977 in Bismarck, ND. Benny later moved to Sioux Falls, where he worked in the construction business before moving back home to the McIntosh area in 1985. He worked for the McLaughlin Housing Department in 1995 and 1996.

Benny moved to Parmalee, where he was diagnosed with kidney failure. He battled the disease for many years and passed to the spirit word on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Sanford Health in Bismarck, ND.

He is survived by his son, Benedict Sylvester Iron Thunder Jr.; grandchildren Sheldon Sauer, Shantel Iron Thunder, Ashlyn Iron Thunder and Chelsie Jo Iron Thunder; great-grandchildren Keegan Lee Sauer, Kayson Liam Sauer and Kaislee Laura Sauer; great-grandchild, Hayzen Elaine Iron Thunder; siblings, Antoinette (Herb) Good Low, Zetah (David) Red Bear, Kathy (Gene) Morrison, Linda Iron Thunder, Johnelle Archambault, Ted Iron Thunder Jr., Henrietta Hoisington, Kohrili Hoisington, Veronica Iron Thunder, Paul Hoisington, and Bernard Hoisington; favorite uncle, James High Cat; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunties, uncles and friends.

Benny was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Iron Thunder and Margaret Hoisington; stepfather, Calvin Hoisington; greatgrandchild Able James Silbernagel; sisters Rose Hoisington and Lorraine Iron Thunder; brother Myron Iron Thunder; and nieces Germaine (Morrison) Kaseman, Tawhneejo Sitting Dog and Maria Yellow Earrings; and nephews, Dominique Archambault and Junior Hoisington.
