CRSTTA says fiber project moving ahead

Even though some state legislators are challenging Gov. Kristi Noem’s rural broadband grants, the Timber Lake fiber project is moving ahead.

Mona Thompson, general manager of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Telephone Authority, said Tuesday, “We are proceeding with the project as if the state broadband grant issue will be resolved with a favorable outcome. And it is still our plan to complete the project by the end of 2019 as required by the state broadband grant.”

Thompson and Jonathon Ivers of Vantage Point, the engineering firm involved in the project, spoke to the Timber Lake City Council via telephone at Monday night’s council meeting. Thompson told the council that the federal funding that had been pending was “not going to work for us.”
