Cowboys defeat Panthers in battle of unbeatens

Two of the hottest teams in 9-man football squared off in Timber Lake Friday night when the Lemmon-McIntosh Cowboys knocked off the TLHS Panthers 42-20.

It was a night of firsts for the Panthers (most of them not the kind of milestones they envisioned): Friday’s game saw them trail on the scoreboard for the first time, saw them be out-gained on offense for the first time and ultimately take their first loss of the season.

Timber Lake moves to 4-1 on the season with a trip to New Underwood (4-1) on the docket for this Friday night. The Cowboys are now 5-0 and host Harding County (4-1) in Lemmon.

Junior quarterback Cody Thompson powered the Cowboy offense with 183 passing yards and 5 touchdowns.

Hank Kraft (100 of the team’s 104 rushing yards, 2 TD) and the Panther offense was as bottled up as it’s been this season, but he was able to break away for a 60-yard scoring run in the first quarter to help the Panthers stay in the game and make it 14-8. Lemmon-McIntosh scored again to lead 20-8 after the opening quarter. The Panthers scored two TDs to the Cowboys’ one in the second quarter to cut it to 28-20 at one point. L/M tacked on two more tubs to set the final score.
