The varsity Panthers’ boys impressive cross country season ended on a historic high note as TLHS finished the state meet in Huron Saturday as champion runners-up.

This is the first time that a cross country team from Timber Lake has placed at state since the 1960’s. With an experienced group of runners, Coach Donna Aberle said the team set some hefty goals prior to this season. Last season, the team placed 8th (top 6 only get awards).

“The boys and I set the goal of nothing less than third for state,” Aberle said.

The 2nd place team finish had the Panthers ending with 45 points, behind only champion school Burke’s

37. Platte-Geddes had 47 points for 3rd and Newell 53 for 4th.

Warner’s Cody Larson won his second straight individual title, crossing the tape in 16:32.77. Bison junior Jonathan Burkhalter was runner-up in 16:45.39. Senior Dylan Mollman of McIntosh was 3rd in 17:14.87.
