Timber Lake and unbeaten Faith set for big LMC battle

The Timber Lake Panthers rallied in the fourth quarter to tie the game, then went on an overtime tear to squeak out a 55-48 victory over the Kadoka Kougars in nonconference boys basketball action Friday.

The win lifts the Panthers to 3-2 on the season heading into a Little Moreau Conference matchup against Faith tonight (Thursday). The Longhorns enter the contest undefeated at 5-0 with their closest margin of victory being just six points against Kadoka in mid-December. Timber Lake will return to Kadoka on Saturday, Jan. 11, to square off against Hot Springs at 4 p.m. in the Kadoka Classic.

The Panthers and Kougars look a lot alike on paper, and on the court, as the two teams match-up well in height, experience and talent. So it was no surprise when they battled evenly in the first half, with Kadoka leading 13-12 at the end of one quarter and 23-20 at the halftime break. Timber Lake struggled offensively in the third stanza, but saw its defense step up to keep the Panthers within striking distance at 34-28.
