A seven-for-eight free throw shooting performance in overtime, including six by senior guard Nick Wittler, helped the Sully Buttes Chargers slip past the Timber Lake Panthers 51-47 in boys basketball action last Tuesday, Jan. 21. The loss dropped the Panthers to 6-3 on the season while Sully Buttes improved to 7-1. Timber Lake won’t see action again until Feb. 4 when it hosts Dupree.

Sully Buttes led 10-9 after one quarter but the Panthers got six points from Isaac Kraft during an 8-3 run in the second frame to pull ahead 17-13 just before the half. Timber Lake was in front 28-25 heading into the fourth quarter and both teams missed opportunities for game-winning baskets at the end of regulation, sending them into overtime knotted at 42. Wittler’s precision free throw shooting gave the Chargers a 9-5 edge during the extra quarter to secure the victory.
