A challenge to Isabel residents: fill our town board

Most folks have heard the old adage that people get the government they deserve.

This may be become truer and truer the further away from the bloated and corrupt federal bureaucracy one gets. At the state level, 40 days of toiling by the legislature in Pierre leads to new laws that take effect months later. County and municipal officials’ work at monthly meetings yields even more immediate results.

Indeed, there is no excuse to be chronically unhappy with local government when one can easily participate in its improvement.

This is especially true in the town of Isabel, where not one but two board seats are open. The seats have been open for a long time. More than a year. We need somebody -- anybody -- to step up and fill these vital roles in our community. It is a situation that has gone from worrisome to downright desperate.
