Meeting on Tuesday, the Dewey County Commissioners voted to begin advertising for a deputy sheriff in anticipation of the retirement of Sheriff Les Mayer this summer. They agreed they would like to hire someone by April 1. There is two years left on Mayer’s elected 4-year term.

Auditor Kyrie Lemburg and Highway Supt. Lyle Richter reported they had received some applications for their respective positions. Applications close on Feb. 14, and the commissioners decided to have a special meeting on Feb. 19 to conduct interviews.

The board voted to hire Cherie Leibel, deputy auditor, to fill in for Lemburg when she leaves the post on Feb. 7. The board agreed to pay her $24 per hour, the equivalent of Lemburg’s salary, while she serves as temporary replacement.
