Two sisters originally from the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation were sentenced to prison last Thursday, March 5, in Salt Lake City, UT for the 2009 strangling death of a former Isabel resident and Purple Heart veteran.

The convictions of Jerah Jean Santos-Ramirez and Victoria Bigcrow Clown were the result of an investigation into a cold case file involving the murder of 62-year-old Lester Janise in Midvale, UT more than a decade ago.

According to a report in the Deseret News, Salt Lake City’s 3rd District Court Judge Linda Jones sentenced Santos-Ramirez, 31, to concurrent terms of five years and up to life in the Utah State Prison for aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, and a second-degree felony. Clown, 30, was ordered to serve concurrent sentences of at least one year and up to 15 years for manslaughter and robbery, both second-degree felonies.
