Survey will examine housing needs

Ty and Shayna Traversie’s house, headed for a lot on the east side of town, is the third home to arrive in Timber Lake in the past few weeks. A shortage of housing has been cited as a need in the community for many years, and a new study will examine the housing situation and make recommendations.

A survey of current and future housing needs in Timber Lake and Isabel is beginning this month. The South Dakota Housing Authority (SDHA) created the Housing Needs Study Program to help decision-makers and the public in towns under 10,000 population understand the housing market in their communities and form a basis for planning.

The SDHA has chosen Community Partners Research, Inc. of Faribault, MN to conduct the studies throughout the state. The costs for the local study will be shared by the SDHA, Timber Lake and Area Development, and the two cities.
