A 62-year-old Dupree man has become the first coronavirus-related fatality on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation.

During his daily radio report on Tuesday, CRST Chairman Harold Frazier confirmed the individual died Monday evening, July 27, after being hospitalized and put on a ventilator. The individual is a member of a large family currently under quarantine with multiple cases of the COVID-19.

“We’ve had other members of the tribe who have passed away from the coronavirus but this is the first time we’ve had a resident of the reservation pass away because of COVID-19,” said Frazier.
