The Timber Lake school board has approved its state-required Return to Learning Plan and the district will begin the 2020-21 school year on August 19 as originally scheduled with students and teachers in the classrooms. The plan sets forth guidelines and policies the school district will implement during the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.

During a special meeting Monday, the board reviewed the proposed plan before voting 4-1 to adopt it. Board member Rae O’Leary, a Registered Nurse and public health advocate, was the lone dissenting vote on the measure, expressing concerns the face mask policies and some other aspects of the plan do not align with Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines or the recommendations of the South Dakota State Medical Association.
