Discussion on how to get the local two-way emergency radio system up and running dominated the meeting when the Timber Lake City Council met Monday night. The session ended with a consensus that the apparatus to restore service for ambulance, fire, and law enforcement would not be mounted on the city water tower, where the previous antenna was when it was damaged by a storm in August.

An ordinance authorizing the county to conduct state and federal criminal background checks (CBCs) on prospective employees was adopted by the Dewey County Commission at its December 3 meeting. Without an ordinance in place, the county could not request the checks. The Timber Lake School has long required criminal background checks for all new employees, including substitute teachers.
Seven Timber Lake Middle School students were involved in a rollover accident with a four-wheel utility vehicle on Wednesday, December 4. Dewey County Deputy Sheriff Ashley Arpan said he was notified by CRST Dispatch at Eagle Butte about 3 p.m. that a 911 caller had reported two people injured in an accident south of Timber Lake on Airport Road (Dewey County Road 5).
