Equalization office gets good audit, commissioners close horse fund

The Department of Revenue gave good marks to Dewey County Equalization Director Brandy Meier after conducting an audit recently.

Allison Jensen, Property Tax Specialist with the DOR, wrote in the audit report, “Brandy Meier does a good job managing the office and the workload with the resources available. The office could be more efficient and allow for more equity in valuations county wide given the resources needed to accomplish this. Additional staff, building permits, GIS mapping, a scanner, and Pro Version for their software would be beneficial additions to Dewey County.”

Local law enforcement waging war on methamphetamine problem

By Robert Slocum

Methamphetamine is toxic, dangerous, and prolonged use can be significantly harmful to a person’s physical and psychological health, but experts say the powerful stimulant is spreading here on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation and across South Dakota.

The rise of the synthetic substance, despite the myriad and grievous consequences of getting involved with it, is largely because meth is a highly addictive substance. It takes a grip on the user and quickly sends them into a spiral of dependency and enslavement to the drug.
