Schaffer Music Studio Spring Recital

The 2014 Schaffer Music Studio Recital is history! There was everything from honky tonk to classical, ballads to show tunes as Colette Schaffer’s students entertained on Sunday afternoon, May 4. The program opened with Averie Marshall on piano, playing “Unicorn Ride” by Polhamus and Hadyn’s “O Worship the King.”

City council elects LaCompte, hears cable TV opportunity

The Timber Lake City Council reorganized at the May 5 meeting. Mayor Clyde Pfeifle, who was unopposed for his position, and councilmen Josh Lemburg and Tom Hermes, who did not run but agreed to continue on the council, took the oath of office. Mike LaCompte was elected chairman of the council and Daryl Schuchhardt was elected vice-chairman.

Commissioners told 4-H advisor contract offered

Lisa Nash, secretary at the Dewey County 4-H office, told the Dewey County Commissioners on Tuesday that an applicant for the 4-H Advisor position had been offered a contract. The candidate, a woman from Wisconsin who has been active in 4-H, is “very interested,” Nash said. An informal interview was held last weekend.

Senior prom

The Timber Lake High School seniors (ABOVE) were guests of the Junior Class at the 2014 Prom on Saturday, April 26. Students and their dates enjoyed music and dancing until midnight, followed by the Post Prom with games and prizes until 3 a.m.

Local winners at Mobridge art show

Jay Jones won the People’s Choice award for his painting of cattle during the 2013 “Atlas” blizzard.

Timber Lake area artists and photographers once again took home ribbons in the 39th Annual Mobridge Art Show. Jay Jones of Trail City won People’s Choice Award in art with his acrylic titled “Atlas.” In adult advanced art, he received honorable mention in mixed media with an entry titled “End of the Day,” a blue ribbon in the acrylic division for “Atlas,” and a yellow ribbon in the drawing division with a drawing titled “Bryan.”

Reunion planned for Second Grade Dino Dig kids

Sometimes it is important to eat the dessert before the meal, so here is the dessert. Students in the 2nd grade Dino Dig classes of: 1989 to 2014 Timber Lake, 2000 to 2012 Dupree, and 2002 to 2012 of Hanson County/Alexandria, there will be a reunion/final gathering for you, your parents, and ANY adults that helped make this program a success over the past 25 years.

Graduation set for May 11

Teachers Jordan Weisbeck and Cody Lawrence have been chosen by the Class of 2014 to be commencement speakers for Timber Lake High School’s 99th annual high school graduation. The ceremony will be held Sunday, May 11 at 2 p.m. at the school gym. Marcia O’Leary, chair of the Timber Lake School Board, will present diplomas to 22 seniors.

Plane crash claims 4 lives

The crash of a small plane near Highmore claimed the lives of four men late Sunday night. It was reported that D.J. Fischer, 30, of Gettysburg, an employee of AirKraft Spraying of Timber Lake, was the pilot of the plane that crashed into a wind turbine during foggy weather.
