Deb Ducheneaux named to bank board

Deb Ducheneaux of Timber Lake has been appointed to the board of directors of Western Dakota Bank. He took office at the annual organizational meeting on January 7. Ducheneaux joins John and Sue Templer of Amarillo, TX, who own the bank, Karma Nash of Isabel, and Barb Gross of Timber Lake on the board.

Days of 1910 will stick with SDRA Rodeo

By a 10-14 vote Monday night, the Timber Lake Rodeo Association voted not to replace the SDRA rodeo with professional bull riding at the Days of 1910 Celebration. The vote came after a lengthy discussion among the members present. The proposal to change to a onenight CBR event came from the new officers, including president Patrick Maher, who chaired the meeting

Senator Maher previews 2014 legislative session

The South Dakota Legislature convenes next week. The Topic asked District 28 Sen. Ryan Maher (R-Isabel) about the upcoming session, the last where he will serve in the Senate because the term limit law prohibits him from running for reelection.

City rethinking location of emergency system tower

Discussion on how to get the local two-way emergency radio system up and running dominated the meeting when the Timber Lake City Council met Monday night. The session ended with a consensus that the apparatus to restore service for ambulance, fire, and law enforcement would not be mounted on the city water tower, where the previous antenna was when it was damaged by a storm in August.

Criminal background checks: How much information?

An ordinance authorizing the county to conduct state and federal criminal background checks (CBCs) on prospective employees was adopted by the Dewey County Commission at its December 3 meeting. Without an ordinance in place, the county could not request the checks. The Timber Lake School has long required criminal background checks for all new employees, including substitute teachers.
