Four petitions out for three vacancies on school board

Four people have taken out petitions for three positions on the Timber Lake School Board. Chad Mettler, A.J. Lindskov and Marie Gross are circulating petitions for the two three-year terms. Mettler and Lindskov are incumbents.

Linnea-Turcotte takes seat on council

Lilian Linnea-Turcotte is the newest member of the Timber Lake City Council. Being the only candidate to file a petition for Seat 1 in Ward 2, she will begin her three-year term in May. But she accepted a temporary appointment by the council and was seated on March 2.

Street project bid opening set for April 6

The Timber Lake City Council will open bids for a street improvement project on April 6. Five blocks of E Street, two segments of Eighth Street, and the intersections at Tenth and E, Eighth and E, and Eighth and C are included.

Fuel discussion

The board accepted a one-month price quote of $2.22 per gallon for diesel fuel from the low bidder, Locken Oil at Isabel. Slater Oil of Mobridge bid $2.249. For a 12 month contract, Locken quoted $2.59 per gallon and Slater quoted $2.49

New deputy sworn in

Jordan Anderson took the oath of office on Monday, becoming Deputy Dewey County Sheriff. He joins Sheriff Les Mayer and Deputies Bill Bieber and Ashley Arpan. Anderson moved to Timber Lake from Selby, where he had been a sergeant at the Walworth County Jail since July, 2014. Prior to that, he worked as a campus safety officer at the University of Sioux Falls. He has training in taser, suicide prevention, defensive tactics, and other phases of police work. Sheriff Mayer has said he intends to send Anderson to the Law Enforcement Training Academy course in the fall of 2015.

Turcotte seated on city council

Lilian Turcotte was appointed to the Ward 2, Seat 1 position on the Timber Lake City Council at the March meeting Monday night and took the oath of office. She had filed a petition for the seat last week and would have taken office in May but since the position was vacant, she was appointed now and will begin her two-year term in May. The deadline for filing petitions was February 27. The only other petition filed was from incumbent Mike LaCompte for Ward 3 Seat 1.
