Marcia O’Leary appointed to vacant seat on school board

The Timber Lake School Board voted Monday night to appoint Marcia O’Leary to temporarily fill the vacant seat on the board. The decision came after an executive session. O’Leary came in third in a three-way race for two board seats in last summer’s school election. Willard Nash came in first and Steve Aberle finished second. O’Leary had been on the board for about 20 years. The seat remained vacant while it was determined whether Aberle was eligible to serve. Last month, a circuit judge ruled that Aberle, who is Dewey County States Attorney, could not hold both elected positions.

No Timber Lake city election

Mayor Clyde Pfeifle was the only candidate to file a petition for the City of Timber Lake. The deadline was February 28. He will serve another three-year term beginning in May. The city council positions held by Jess Schlosser (Ward 1), Josh Lemburg (Ward 2) and Tom Hermes (Ward 3) are also up for election this year but no one filed. Those council members can continue to serve unless they resign. There is also a vacant seat in Ward 2, which can be filled by appointment. Because there are no contests, the April 8 election has been cancelled.
