Phyllis Parker, 89, of Eagle Butte passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Prairie Hills Nursing Home in Rapid City. Arrangements are pending with Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Dan O’Leary

March 23, 1931 – April 23, 2018

Dan J. O’Leary was born in Timber Lake on March 23, 1931, graduated from Timber Lake High School and moved to Tacoma, WA. Dan attended Saint Martin’s Seminary in Lacy (Olympia), WA. He went into the roofing and siding business and credited his friend, Tom Harris, with “teaching him how to work.”

Dan served in the U.S Army from 1952 - 1954. After being discharged from the service he moved to El Paso, TX where other family members had migrated from South Dakota and went to work for O’Leary Realty with his cousins Harlan, Jerry, Gale and Keith O’Leary.

Terry Bear Ribs

March 30, 1953 – July 18, 2018

Funeral services for Terry Bear Ribs, 65, of Rock Creek (Bullhead) were held July 18, 2018 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Rock Creek.

Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Norbert “Mike” Grismer November 7, 1935 – November 29, 2017Now

Mass of Christian Burial for Norbert "Mike" Grismer was held at St. Martin's Church in Sturgis on Friday, July 13, 2018. Inurnment followed at Fort Meade National Cemetery. A celebration of Life was held for family and friends in Black Hawk. Norbert “Mike” Grismer was born Nov. 7, 1935 to Henry and Katherine (Mitzel) Grismer at Trail City.

Norbert attended grade school in Trail City and in his senior year of high school he joined the National Guard and graduated from Timber Lake High School in 1955. Following graduation he joined the US Navy serving part of his time overseas in Cuba, France, England and Scotland. After discharge he attended Barber School in Fargo, ND. He was a barber in Mobridge and then moved to Rapid City, where he bought a barber shop in Baken Park.

Steven Michael Locken January 2, 1956 – July 8, 2018

Mass of Christian Burial for Steve Locken, 62, of Isabel was held July 16, 2018 at the Isabel Community Center. Burial was held at Hillview Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Steven Michael Locken passed away at his home in Isabel on July 8, 2018 after a two year battle with leukemia.

Steve was born January 2, 1956 to Harold and Dawn (Hazel) Locken. He spent his childhood years in Isabel, graduating from Isabel High School in 1974. His favorite childhood memories were spending days with his Grandpa Locken and cousins on the Locken Ranch. Steve married Pam Alley in 1977 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Isabel. He ran Locken Oil for his father a few years before purchasing a semi-truck.

Frances K. Ice October 8, 1924 – July 10, 2018Mary

entered into eternal rest Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Holiday Resort. She was 93. Frances was born Wednesday, October 8, 1924 in Timber Lake to John J. and Clara (Thomas) Schweitzer. She married John Ice in May of 1980. Frances worked as a waitress for most of her life. Faith was extremely important to Frances. She had a special devotion to Mary the Blessed Mother. Frances loved people in general and especially her many nieces, nephews, their families and her godchildren.

She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, socializing with friends and attending church functions in and around Emporia. She did a lot of volunteer work and received an award one year for her services. She especially enjoyed baking for others and taking people out to activities. Frances had a very colorful personality and was very outgoing and happy. She was often described as a “sweetheart.”

Loretta Fiddler Age 68

Corky” Fiddler, 68, of San Jose, CA, formerly of White Horse was held July 13, 2018 at the Oster Funeral Home in Mobridge. Cremation and burial will be at a later date under the direction of the Oster Funeral Home. Loretta passed away at her home in San Jose on June 29, 2018.

Vern Hirsch

April 23, 1921 – September 23, 2017

Vern Hirsch, 92, passed away on September 23, 2017. He was the son of Ed and Louisa Hirsch, and was born on April 23, 1921 in Isabel. He lived there with his parents and siblings, Violet Moore and Alvin Hirsch. They all worked hard to help the family by making deliveries with their large draft horses. In school Vern enjoyed singing in the glee club and playing in the band.

After World War II started, Vern joined the Army in 1942. He was sent to Europe and became a driver for the chaplain in his unit. Vern was in the Battle of the Bulge and other battles. He loved to tell and write stories about his experiences. It made an impression on his entire life - and especially during his later years. He valued the friends and experiences he had during this time of war.

Margaret “Peg” Duncan

May 8, 1943 – March 15, 2018, 2017

Margaret Ann “Peg” Duncan was born May 8, 1943 in San Diego, CA. She and her mother, Margaret Murdock lived for a short time in Timber Lake to be near her grandmother, Esther Murdock. They then made their home in a Seattle, WA where she grew up. She returned to South Dakota and graduated from South Dakota State in Brookings. She worked as a journalist in various places until retirement.

She and her mother were active in Senior RV group and traveled extensively, wintering in the South.

Taylor Marie Frank-Stein

A Celebration of Life service for Taylor Marie Frank-Stein of Sturgis and Isabel will be 11:00 a.m. CT on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the Holy Spirit Chapel (Old Stone Church) on Firesteel Creek. Inurnment will be in the Holy Spirit Cemetery.

Taylor passed away Monday, June 18, 2018 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
