Jeanette Butler

Jeanette Butler, 83, of Bismarck, ND passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 29, 2020 from 9-11 a.m. CT followed by the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Cayuga, ND. Burial will be in the spring at the Cayuga Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Jeanette Ann (Saunders) Butler was born on October 8, 1936 on a farm south of Lidgerwood, ND to Myrtle Ann Peffer and John Travis Saunders. She attended country school in Kingston County and attended high school in Lidgerwood, graduating in 1953.

James “Jim” Francis Silbernagel

James “Jim” Francis Silbernagel

James Francis Silbernagel was born on April 22, 1940 in Mobridge to Dorothy (Schweitzer) and Frank Silbernagel. He grew up on the family farm at Trail City and graduated from Timber Lake High School in 1959. Following his graduation, he attended Humboldt Institute in Minneapolis, MN.

After finishing college, he returned to Timber Lake and married Harriet Hodgman on June 17, 1961, a marriage that lasted 58 years. They raised three children: Gary, Barbara, and Terry.

Jim spent the first part of his professional career working for the Milwaukee Railroad which meant, “pack your bags.” The Milwaukee Railroad transferred Jim and Harriet to Minnesota in the early 60’s, then Nebraska in the mid 60’s, back to Minnesota in the late 60’s and Idaho in 1970. Even with all that moving and 8 years spanning between the three kids they were all born in the same St. Paul, MN hospital.

Ben Walter Joens

Ben Walter Joens, 73, of Eagle Butte passed away Friday, February 7, 2020 at Avera-St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre.

Ben was born in Dupree on February 26, 1946 to Glen and Alvena (Blatner) Joens. He served his country in the armed forces and returned to South Dakota where he was employed by the South Dakota Department of Transportation for 33 years.

Ben had a love of farming and ranching and enjoyed every minute that he spent on his John Deere tractor. Most important in his life, however, was his family.

Alfred “Al” Keller

Alfred “Al” Keller

Alfred “Al” Keller, 85, of Rapid City, died Friday, January 31, 2020.

Al was born in Trail City on March 4, 1934 to Martin and Katherine (Buechler) Keller. He had two brothers, Theofil “T.J.” and Valentine “Valley” and two sisters, Severina “Sev” Kraft and Mary Thares.

Alfred worked the family farm until he was drafted into the Army and spent one year in the Korean War. His service totaled six years with four years spent with the National Guard. He was honorably discharged in 1962 and returned to the family farm.

In 1957 he met Vivien Anderson at a country dance and they were married on June 4, 1958. In 1963 the family moved to Wisconsin where Alfred worked for L.E. Myers. Alfred began working for Brink Construction in 1960 and lived in several different places throughout his career. In 1970 the family settled in Rapid City. This is where Al retired from Brinks Construction in 1996.

Bertha “Bert” Ross

Bertha “Bert” Ross

Bertha “Bert” Ross, 88, of Rapid City died Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Peaceful Pine Senior Living Community in Rapid City.

A memorial visitation will be held at South Park United Church of Christ (2201 3rd Street, Rapid City) on Thursday, February 6 from 5-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 7 at 10 a.m. at the church.

Bert was born to John and Lena Schuh on April 13, 1931 near Isabel. She attended rural schools before graduating from Isabel High School in 1948.

After attending Northern State Teacher’s College for one year, Bert taught in rural schools for five years followed by three years in Dupree Schools.

In 1954, she married Bob Ross and they moved to Rapid City. Bert continued her education and graduated from Black Hills State Teacher’s College in 1970. She spent the remainder of her 40-year career teaching in Rapid City schools. She thrived on enriching the lives of her many students.

Debra Kay Bridwell

The funeral service for Debra Kay Bridwell, 65, of Sante Fe, NM was held February 3, 2020 at the Cheyenne River Bingo Hall in Eagle Butte. Cremation will take place after the funeral. Debra entered the Spirit World on January 24, 2020 in Santa Fe. Oster Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edward “Wally” Scott

Edward (“Wally”) Scott, 81, of San Tan Valley, AZ and formerly of Timber Lake, passed away February 1, 2020 at Mesa, AZ. He was the son of Dale and Jessie Scott of Timber Lake and a 1956 graduate of Timber Lake High School. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Ardie Scott of Timber Lake and Mesa, AZ and Nancy Scott of Rapid City; three nieces and four nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Doug and David, and a sister, Mickey Shorthill. A memorial for Wally will be held at Timber Lake in the summer.

Alfred J. Keller, 85, of Rapid City and formerly of Trail City, died January 31, 2020. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at St. Therese Catholic Church with a Christian Wake Service at 6 p.m. Christian Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 7, at the church. Burial will be at 1 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery with full military honors rendered by the Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota Army National Guard.

Mass of Christian Burial for Keith Lesmeister, 58, of Mobridge was held February 4, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mobridge. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Keith passed away January 29, 2020 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND.

Mary M. Clown, 81, of Eagle Butte passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Funeral services were held Thursday, January 30, 2020 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte.
