Michael “Mick”Pexa

Michael L. (“Mick”) Pexa, 73, of Hermosa died Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Michael Lewis Pexa was born September 7, 1945 in Rapid City. He moved to his beloved hometown of Isabel at age two and later delighted in reminiscing about his many years there. He was an outstanding high school athlete, making the all-conference basketball team his senior year and starring on the football team. He also loved baseball.

Sr. Helen Ripplinger

Sister Helen Ripplinger, 92, a Sister of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, died July 17, 2019 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor, Aberdeen.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, July 20, 2019 in Blessed Sacrament Chapel at Presentation Convent in Aberdeen. Reverend David Janes was celebrant and homilist. Interment was at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Helen Ripplinger was born September 27, 1926 in Trail City to Magdelina (Meier) and Joseph Ripplinger. She graduated from the South Dakota School for the Blind in 1945. She attended Northern State College, Presentation College and later Lighthouse School for the Blind in Chicago.

She entered Presentation Convent September 8, 1949 and made her profession of vows on August 10, 1952, receiving her religious name of Sister Jacinta.

Ariya Red Elk

Ariya Josephine Red Elk, 5, of Cherry Creek entered the Spirit World on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Cherry Creek.

She is survived by her parents, Virgil Red Elk, Sr. and Kerea Huapapi of Cherry Creek; four brothers: Anthony Red Elk, Virgil Red Elk, Jr., Aidan Red Elk, all of Cherry Creek, and Jeremy Huapapi of Oglala; five sisters: Aida Red Elk, Aniya Red Elk, Aneesa Huapapi, and Kaliya Huapapi, all of Cherry Creek, and Anethia Red Elk of Wanblee; maternal grandparents, Leslie Huapapai and Dale Sitting Up of Wanbee; and paternal grandparents, Marion Romero of Cherry Creek and Calvin Red Elk of Wanblee.

Robert Cousins

Robert “Bob” Cousins, 78, of Salina, KS passed away peacefully May 16, 2019 at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina after a lingering illness.

Bob was born December 26, 1940 in Mobridge to Herb and Adeline Cousins.

In January, 1958 he joined the Army and served until 1964. After his stint he worked in the heavy equipment industry as a machine welder and maintenance manager.

In April 1958 he married the former Gloria Riemath. Through the years they lived in many states.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years; a son Clayton Cousins; daughter Juanita Stueckrath; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brothers Jim (Donna) and Kevin (Kelly); sisters Sue Seiler and Sharon Picking; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-grand nephews and nieces.

Darlene ‘Dolly’ Auch

Darlene “Dolly” Auch of Corvallis, OR passed away on July 5, 2019.

She was born on May 28, 1932, in Isabel to John and Elizabeth Maier.

Her childhood was spent in Yakima, WA and Missoula, MT. She met Edmund Auch in Missoula and they married on September 19, 1952. Together Ed and Dolly raised their five boys in Missoula, Lolo, MT and later Corvallis.

Dolly loved being outdoors and setting the pace while working alongside the guys. She was known not only for her undeniable work ethic, but also her playfulness and humor. Dolly had a strong faith in God that she shared with her family and friends.

JoAnn Hunter

JoAnn Marie Hunter, 84, of Timber Lake passed away peacefully on July 8, 2019 at Mobridge Regional Hospital after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 20 at Black Hills Funeral Home Chapel in Sturgis with Pastor Bill Martin Officiating. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.

JoAnn was born December 29,1934 in Hot Springs to Kenneth and Beaulah Mae “Peg” (Rearick) Helsel and lived her childhood along the Cheyenne River southeast of Edgemont. She rode horseback four miles to attend Plainsview Country School and except for one year at St. Agnes Academy in Alliance, NE, attended Edgemont’s Middle and High Schools and graduated as valedictorian in 1952.

JoAnn attended Chadron State College and played clarinet in the college band and was Homecoming Queen. She was also Fall River County Fair’s first Queen in 1952.

Randy Fudge

Funeral services for Randy Fudge, 62, of Mobridge and Timber Lake were held Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at the United Parish Church in Timber Lake. Burial was at the Timber Lake Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Randy passed away Sunday, July 14, 2019 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.

Randall Dwayne Fudge was born to Frank and Nellie (Perry) Fudge on October 2, 1956 in Mobridge. He grew up in Timber Lake and graduated from Timber Lake High School in 1974. While in high school he was active in band and football.

Following high school Randy attended Black Hills State University.

He married Deb Geigle in November of 1976. To this union two children were born, Mike and Julie. Later in life Randy welcomed a daughter into his life, Anna Netzer.

Randy made his home in Timber Lake before moving to McLaughlin and eventually Mobridge. During this time he worked construction and farmed.

Funeral services for William Joseph Cook, 45, of Eagle Butte will be at 11 a.m. MT on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Old Agency in Eagle Butte.

Family and friends will gather at the 4 mile junction to process to the Old Agency in Eagle Butte at 4 p.m. MT on Friday, July 12, 2019 for an all night wake and services to begin at 7 p.m. MT. Mr. Cook passed away in Sioux Falls on July 6, 2019.

Oster/First Nations Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.
