Richard Robert Ducheneaux

Funeral services for Richard Robert Ducheneaux, 83, of Eagle Butte were held Monday, July 8, 2019 at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte. Father Brian Sorenson officiated. Burial was in St. Catherine Cemetery at Promise under the direction of First Nations-Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge

Richard entered the spirit world on June 29, 2019 at the Cheyenne River IHS in Eagle Butte surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Richard was born on March 18, 1936, the ninth child and youngest son of Douglas and Esther (LeBeau) Ducheneaux. He spent his young years on the family ranch at the mouth of the Moreau River near Promise. He and his siblings attended the Old Cheyenne Agency and Stephan Boarding School. He liked to share stories of his family adventures and hardships.

When Richard was 20 he joined the US Army and was stationed in Korea. He was honorably discharged on May 14, 1962.

Willa Joan Peterson

Willa Joan Peterson, one-monthold daughter of Paul and Mika (Tibbs) Peterson of Dupree passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at the IHS Hospital in Eagle Butte.

Funeral services for Willa were held Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Faith. Burial was at the Dupree Cemetery in Dupree.

Willa Joan’s story began on May 31, 2019. She almost didn’t wait for the doctor to show up and had her nurses running. She announced her arrival and quickly snuggled into her mother’s arms. Her proud father stood by waiting to rock her and give her loving words.

Larry Roy Simpson

Larry Roy Simpson passed away June 20, 2019 at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND. Larry was born to Donald and Beulah Simpson on March 23, 1960 in Watertown.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 29 at the Community Center in Isabel with Ronald Stradinger officiating.

During his childhood Larry worked on the family farm with his dad. He was very mechanically inclined and never afraid of a good project. As a teenager, Larry worked as a grounds keeper at the Watertown Country Club and was later employed at a welding shop in Watertown, until he graduated.

Larry In Woods

Larry In Woods, 61, of Dupree passed away Monday, June 17, 2019 at the I.H.S. Hospital in Eagle Butte.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 24, 2019 at the Dupree Multipurpose Building in Dupree. Burial was in the Dupree City Cemetery.

Larry In Woods was born to Loveleah In The Woods on April 7, 1958 near Lantry on the way to the hospital. He attended school in Dupree, graduating in 1976. Larry went on to further his education, attending college in Idaho and tech school near Aberdeen. After his schooling in Aberdeen, Larry went to California before returning to Eagle Butte where he worked for JTRA and the Cheyenne River Housing Authority.

In 2003, Larry started working for the CRST Central Records Office where he worked until he got sick.

JoBeth Reeves Swires

Memorial services for JoBeth Reeves Swires, 59, of Buckeye, AZ and formerly of Eagle Butte will be held at 10:30 a.m. MT on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the Cheyenne River Bingo Hall in Eagle Butte. Inurnment will be in the Eagle Butte Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

JoBeth was born prematurely on September 7, 1960 to Buzz and Faye Reeves. She was so tiny, at 6 lbs., 7 oz., she fit in a shoe box. She joined two older brothers, D’Aun and Kevin Reeves. Later another brother Kip and sister Melissa joined them.

From the get-go JoBeth loved horses and began riding at the age of three. At age six, her Grandpa Art sent her a big bay, about 15 hands, whom she called George. Shortly after, she and George made their rodeo debut in Eagle Butte.

When she was around seven or eight years old, JoBeth was a member of the Ride & Reelers Drill Team. They did a square dance on horseback. Her cousin Jim Hunt was her partner.

Larry Simpson

Larry Simpson, 59, of Isabel passed away Friday, June 21, 2019 at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 29 at 11 a.m. MT at the Isabel Community Center. Larry is survived by his wife, Mitzi, and his children, Taber and Sammi.

Monte Dwaine LeBeau

Monte Dwaine LeBeau, 59, of Rapid City passed away on Monday June 17, 2019 at Rapid City Regional Hospital, with his wife of 25 years Onna LeBeau, at his side.

Monte was born January 24, 1960 at Old Cheyenne Agency to Dwaine Medard LeBeau and Rita Ann Swimmer, both members of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe.

Monte was the oldest of five siblings.

Monte served Native American tribes as a BIA police officer and later with a career in the BIA Property Management Division. His final posting was as BIA Superintendent at the Winnebago Agency in Nebraska.

Monte is the father to six children from two marriages: Chris and Andrea from his first marriage to Barbara Eckert; he gained another son Alec in his second marriage to Onna Webster and together they had Ethan, Tristan and Aidan.

Alva A. Schneider

Alva A. Schneider, 83, of Eagle Butte passed away Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital, Pierre.

Funeral mass was June 21, 2019 at All Saints Catholic Church, Eagle Butte. Fr. Bryan Sorenson presided. Burial was in the Eagle Butte Cemetery.

Alva Ann Simon was born on May 14, 1936 at Cheyenne Agency, the youngest of four children of Robert P. and Eunice A. (Mathison) Simon. She started her education at the Simon Country School and continued at Eagle Butte until her sophomore year of high school.

In 1952 she met Clarence R. “Dick” Thompson and they were married February 4, 1952. To this union five children were born. Alva married Joseph Schneider in 1977. Joe passed away on December 9, 2000.
