Wayne Maxon

Mass of Christian Burial for Wayne Maxon, 67, of McLaughlin will be at 10 a.m. MT, Thursday, June 20, 2019 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in McLaughlin. Burial will be at St. Basil’s Cemetery at Mossman under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Wayne passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Mobridge Regional Hospital.

Alice Muriel Sabo

Alice Muriel Sabo passed away on May 6, 2019, at the age of 88. Muriel was born December 20, 1930, in Timber Lake to Truels and Alice Madsen, the third of five children. Muriel met Clair Sabo while teaching at a country school in Reva and they married on November 24, 1950. They had three boys. She survived the loss of two of her sons— Thomas and David, and her husband Clair. Her gifts of cooking, caring and loving people touched many lives. Muriel is survived by her son, Terry; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Alva Schneider

Alva A. Schneider, 83, of Eagle Butte passed away Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital, Pierre. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. MT, Friday, June 21, 2019 at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte with Fr. Bryan Sorenson presiding. Burial will follow in the Eagle Butte Cemetery. A wake service will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, June 20, 2019 at the church with visitation one hour prior. There will be a procession from the 4-mile junction at 5 p.m. Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte is in charge of arrangements.

Rosmarie June Zahrowski

Funeral services were held for Rosmarie June Zahrowski, 92, at the Gorman Funeral Homes-Converse Chapel in Douglas, WY on June 17, 2019. Pastor Jeremy Paradowski of the Douglas Baptist Church officiated. Inurnment will be at Hillview Cemetery in Isabel in October, 2019.

Rosmarie Zahrowski passed away June 12, 2019 at the Douglas Care Center in Douglas.

She was born November 19, 1926 at Burnstad, ND to Fred Herman and Alvina (Straub) Brinkman. She had two sisters and one brother. As a young girl she lived in the Glad Valley area. Her schooling was in country schools and in Isabel.

She married the love of her life, Alex David Zahrowski, on November 25, 1942 in Dupree. Their first home was a sheep wagon out on the prairie. In the early years they lived in many places. Isabel became their final home in 1959. Starting in 1944 they started their family of four boys and four girls: Gloria, Larry, Lionel, Leslie, Vernal, Elva, Alex “Bill”, and Della

Thomas E. Meylor

Thomas E. Meylor of Longmont, CO passed away Monday, June 3, 2019. Born in Storm Lake, Iowa on January 4, 1925 to Edward and Amanda (Berendes) Meylor, Tom was the oldest of five children. He spent his childhood on farms near Marcus, Iowa. After graduation from Holy Name High School (Marcus) in 1942, he worked on a farm until he was drafted into the Army on February 26, 1944.

He trained at Camp Roberts, CA in Infantry Intelligence and Reconnaissance. In July 1944, after a brief stop to visit family, he shipped out and arrived in Scotland in August 1944. From there he went to England and France, and by October he was on the way to Germany and the front lines.

Tom was wounded twice and was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and a Bronze Star. He was in Berlin in late 1945 where he stood guard duty at Lt. General Lucias Clay’s residence.

Virgil A. Johnson

Virgil A. Johnson, 89, died peacefully May 31, 2019. Services were held June 5 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bismarck, ND.

Virgil was born March 9, 1930 on a farm in Suring, WI. On June 30, 1947 he married his 4-H sweetheart, Marie Alice Krause (Mary). They had five children.

In 1949 Virgil and Mary, with son David, moved to southern Wisconsin. Thus began his life long career in cheese making, first in Seneca, then Stitzer. He opened his first cheese plant in 1950. From 1962 to 1983 Virgil opened cheese plants in Selfridge, ND, Wishek, ND, Timber Lake, SD, and Dickinson, ND.

John B. Johnson

Celebration of Life for John B. Johnson, 94, of Trail City will be held at 10:30 a.m. MT, Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the Trail City Community Hall. Inurnment will be in the Timber Lake Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Military honors will be provided by Timber Lake American Legion Post #83.

John passed away, May 29, 2019 at Avera Flandreau Hospital in Flandreau.

Family and ranching were the world to John. He loved his family “to the nth degree” and never gave up on them.

Mary (Quinn) Martian

Mary Irene (Quinn) Martian, 82, passed away May 8, 2019 at her home in La Mirada, CA surrounded by her children and loved ones.

She was born April 21, 1937 in Ossian, Iowa to Gordon and Ida (Brockamp) Quinn. Mary moved with her family to Harmony, MN, where they lived for five years. By 1944 her parents moved back to Timber Lake where she lived for all of her school years.

Mary met Edwin Martian during high school and they were married July 30, 1955. They remained in South Dakota until 1966 and during this time they had 5 of their 7 children. Mary and Ed moved to southern California where they lived and raised their family, having two more children.

Mary worked for over 30 years in office administration and had enjoyed retirement for more than 15 years.

Lloyd Kjellsen

Funeral services for Lloyd Kjellsen, 85, of Timber Lake will be held at the United Parish Church in Timber Lake at 11:00 a.m. MT on June 8, 2019. On Friday, June 7 there will be a time of sharing at 6:00 p.m. at the church with a prayer service to follow at 7:00.

Lloyd Andrew Kjellsen was born February 10, 1934 on the family farm outside of Badger, one of 13 children born to Albeck and Marie (Pedersen) Kjellsen. He attended country schools until starting high school in Hetland, the year that school was closed. He participated in basketball and football and graduated from Lake Preston High School in 1952. After high school he served in the Army for two years and was stationed in New York City for 18 months. He went to all the baseball games he could, and by wearing his uniform, he went free of charge.
