Ned H. Smolik

A memorial service for Ned Smolik, 67, of Spearfish will be held Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 10 a.m. MT at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel, 450 7th St. in Spearfish.

Ned was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer last fall and passed away on February 26, 2019.

Ned Herbert Smolik entered this world on August 23, 1951 in Mobridge as the fifth child of Ted and Anna Smolik. He was raised with his seven siblings on the family farm 13 miles northwest of Timber Lake. He attended Little Oak Rural School for eight years while he worked with his father and family on the farm.

Roy Dean Huft

Roy Huft, 55, of Ismay, MT passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Saint Vincent Hospital in Billings, MT.

Roy was born November 13, 1963 to Eugene Alfred Huft and Elvina Marie Huft in Mobridge. He attended a country school for elementary and high school in Isabel.

Roy married Debbie Wiedmer June 3, 1983. Beau Dean was born in 1984, Philip Roy in 1985, and Bryce Jacob in 1986. The first years of their marriage Roy worked for Miller Construction at Isabel and helped on the Huft family ranch.

In 1985 they moved to Ottumwa and worked for the Hickman Ranch. In August of 1992 the family moved to Ismay and worked for Keystone Ranches. While there, in 1994 Tyrel EuGene was born. In the fall of 1998, the family moved 5 miles west of Ismay and began working for Hofmann Ranch.

Celestine Ducheneaux, 86, of Pierre, formerly of Promise, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Pierre Care and Rehabilitation.

Arrangements are pending with Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Dolly Fleming

Dolly Fleming, 77, of Valentine, NE and formerly of Isabel passed away January 15, 2019 at Pine View Good Samaritan Society in Valentine.

Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge was in charge of arrangements.

Dolly was born January 23, 1941 at the home of Arthur and Julia (Donner) Dearborn at Isabel. Her sisters Mildred, Betty, Ethel and Fern were sent to a watch game. When they returned, there all wrapped up, lying on the sewing machine, was their sweet little sister.

Dolly attended school in Isabel until the family moved to a small farm on the edge of Mobridge. She finished her schooling in Mobridge.

Fred Schopp

Funeral services for Fred Schopp, 82, longtime Athboy area rancher, were held Monday, March 11, 2019 at St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lemmon with burial in Greenhill Cemetery at Lemmon.

Fred passed away at his home near Athboy on Sunday, March 3, 2019.

Fred Albert Schopp was born May 21, 1936 on the Schopp homestead near Athboy to John and Emilia (Janz) Schopp. He was born, lived his entire life, raised a family and passed from this life – all in the same house.

Fred graduated from elementary school and helped his parents on the family farm.

He married Beverly Becker on May 23, 1954. They began their life together on the Schopp Ranch, where they raised their six children: Laurie, Connie, Sherry, Janice, Raymond, and Kayleen.

Thomas Peterson

Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas Peterson, 60, of Aberdeen was Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Timber Lake. Burial will be at a later date at the Timber Lake Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Tom passed away Monday, March 4, 2019 at his residence in Aberdeen.

Thomas Gorman Peterson was born May 29, 1958 in Deadwood. He was adopted by Gorman and May Peterson, and brought to Timber Lake to begin his life in his new home. You could tell right away that Tom was going to be a cowboy, just like his dad and uncle Pat. Tom loved the ranch life; before long he was roping and riding.

In 1968, Gorman and May and their two boys, Tom and Jerry, moved to the Ed Chapel place north of Timber Lake, where Tom attended Chapel School across the road from their home. He participated in every rodeo that he could find including 4-H and Little Britches.

Daniel Paulson

Daniel Paulson, 94, of Winona, MN passed peacefully Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019.

Dan was born in Isabel on Sept. 2, 1924, one of 8 children of Nels and Charlotte (Green) Paulson. Dan grew up in Isabel where he developed an appreciation for gardening, farming and the environment.

Dan served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He moved to Chicago to study, to work in purchasing and to raise a family. He graduated from Loyola University, Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts.

Dan was an avid reader and a crossword puzzle wizard. He did extensive genealogical research and traveled the world discovering his roots. He enjoyed spending time raising flowers, especially begonias, in his greenhouse. He volunteered his time to help the disadvantaged, and to promote adult literacy.

He is survived by his sons Timothy, Michael, Patrick and Kevin; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary.

Ray Tehle

Mass of Christian Burial for Ray Tehle, 80, of Timber Lake was March 4, 2019 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Timber Lake. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Timber Lake Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Ray passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.

Raymond “Ray” LeRoy Tehle was born on November 26, 1938, at Breckenridge, MN to Cyril and Irene (Haley) Tehle. He attended St. Mary’s Grade School in Breckenridge and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1956.

He married Joyce Schendel on January 19, 1957, in California. To this union, three children, Lori, Richard and Sheri, were born. Joyce died July 23, 1985.

Emil Tomac

The funeral service for Emil Tomac, 96, of Lemmon was scheduled for Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lemmon with Fr. Tony Grossenburg officiating and burial in the Morristown Cemetery.

Emil passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND.

Emil Tomac was born on November 29, 1922 at Thunder Hawk, the fourth of eight children of Anton and Anna (Vukelic) Tomac. He grew up on the Tomac family homestead south of Morristown near the Grand River. He attended a local country school and at an early age began herding sheep.

Irene Stoick

Mass of Christian Burial for Irene Stoick, 88, of Selby was held Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Selby. Burial was at Selby Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Irene passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Walworth County Care Center. Memorials may be directed to the Walworth County Care Center.
