Donald A. Bennett

November 24, 1935 – December 31, 2015
 
Donald A. Bennett was born November 24, 1935 in Dupree to Charles and Elizabeth (Shorty) Bennett. He passed away December 21, 2015. He was raised on a small ranch where his family made music the center of their life and home; there was always “pickin’ and grinnin’.” Their door was open to any and all with the coffee pot on and a game of cards a necessity. Don loved to tell jokes and see people laugh.

A memorial mass for Teresa “Ramona” LeBeau will be held Saturday, February 27, 2016. at 11 a.m. MT at St. Martin’s Chapel in Sturgis. A rosary service will be held on Friday at 7 p.m. Ramona passed away Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Sturgis Regional Hospital. She was born September 16, 1933 to Johnson and Eudora (Traversie) LeBeau at Promise.

Matthew Wade Smolik

August 29, 1975 – February 7, 2016

Matthew Wade Smolik passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 7, 2016 following an accident in which he sustained a traumatic brain injury. Matt was born in Sioux Falls, on August 29, 1975 to Jeanette (Wevik) and Clarence “Cy” Smolik. He was raised on the family farm in rural Beresford, where he learned the value of hard work and developed a great love for farming. He learned to drive a tractor by sitting on his Dad’s lap, developed his strong muscles by throwing hay bales and built his courage by testing live electric fences. He quickly became known as the boy who could fix anything and enjoyed taking things apart just to put them back together.

Betty Jane “B.J.” Coull Jones

April 6, 1937 – May 20, 2014

B.J. (Betty Jane) Jones died on May 20, 2014, in her home at Woodstock, IL of natural causes. B.J. was born on April 6, 1937 to Ward and Ruth (Kirk) Coull in Mobridge, but not before a neighbor with a team of horses helped Ward get out of their valley and traverse several miles of mud to reach a gravel road on which to go another 35 miles to the hospital.

B.J. (Betty Jane) Jones died on May 20, 2014 at her home in Woodstock, IL of natural causes. B.J. was the daughter of the late Ward and Ruth Coull of Timber Lake and a 1954 graduate of Timber Lake High School. A complete obituary will follow.

Jerry Lewis Marx September 29, 1943 – January 28, 2016

Jerry Lewis Marx was born on September 29, 1943 to Lois Symonds Marx and Sylvester (John) Marx. When Jerry was a young child the family lived in Faith, Sturgis, Belle Fourche, and Sulphur. When he was about 9 years old, his mother married Leo (Gailen) McDaniel and the family moved to Lantry. Jerry spent most of the following years in the Lantry/ Dupree area. He attended school in Royal Center, Sturgis, Lantry, Eagle Butte and Dupree. A couple of years after leaving Dupree High School, Jerry joined the United States Air Force, where he obtained his GED.
