Josephine Halfred-Mendoza

Josephine Halfred-Mendoza, 31, of Maricopa, AZ and formerly of Ridgeview passed away Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Chandler Regional Hospital in Chandler, AZ. Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte with Father Dan Juelfs officiating. Burial followed at St. Basil’s Catholic Cemetery at Ridgeview. Josephine Lehla Rose Halfred was born September 28, 1983 at Ft. Yates, ND to Cyntheia Fischer and the late Franklin D. (Jumbo) Halfred. She attended Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Elementary School and later transferred to

Diane M. Marshall

Memorial services for Diane Marie Marshall, 63, of Eagle Butte will be at  2 p.m. MT, Friday, February 20, 2015 at United Church of Christ in Eagle Butte under the direction of Kesling  Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date. Diane passed away on Friday, February 13, 2015 at Ft. Yates  Hospital in Ft. Yates, ND. Diane Marie Bynum was born on March 15, 1951 at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre to Bynum and  Doris (Larson) Downing. She attended school at Cheyenne-Eagle  Butte and graduated in 1969. She started her career as a candy striper at the hospital in Eagle Butte  when she was a freshman in high school. It was during her early years that she knew she wanted to be a  nurse. She attended college at South Dakota State University and later  transferred to the University of North Dakota.

LaVonne Milliken

The funeral service for LaVonne  Milliken, 83, of Mobridge and formerly of Timber Lake was held Monday, February 16, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Mobridge. Burial was Tuesday, February 17 at  Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. LaVonne passed away on February 10, 2015 at the Golden Living Center at Mobridge.  LaVonne Myers was born on September 6, 1931 in rural Timber Lake to Charlie and Louise (Baier) Myers. She married Robert Milliken on January 19, 1948 and they made their home on various farms in Dewey and Corson counties.  They purchased the Walt Donald farm in 1958. LaVonne spent her time helping with the duties on the farm, caring for the home and raising her four  children.After the passing of her husband in  1997 LaVonne moved to Mobridge. She later became a resident at the Golden Living Center.

Williamette Jo Miner

Williamette Jo Miner, 47 of Timber Lake entered the Spirit  World on Saturday, January 31, 2015 as a result of an auto accident near Timber Lake. Funeral services were Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Emmanuel  Episcopal Church at White Horse with Senior Catechist Darlene Traversie and Rev. Norman Blue Coat officiating. Burial was at the  Emmanuel Episcopal Cemetery at White Horse. Williamette Jo Buckley was born to William Buckley and Rose Shell  Track on May 27, 1967 at Fort Yates, ND. She attended Wahpeton Indian  School during her grade school years. She later attended Mandan, ND High School and Fort Yates High  School. She also attended Sitting Bull College and Si Tanka College.  Williamette worked at Tender Hearts Inc., the Cheyenne River Women’s Shelter, the Cheyenne River Elderly Nutrition Center in White  Horse, Timber Lake Service, and Subway in Wagner.

Williamette Jo Miner

 Died January 31, 2015 Williamette Jo Miner, 47, of Timber Lake, entered the Spirit World on Saturday, January 31, 2015 as a result of an auto accident near Timber Lake. She is survived by her husband, David Miner of Timber Lake; three sons— Isaac Buckley of Timber Lake, and Kip Blue Coat and Casey Buckley of Eagle Butte; two daughters, Lucinda Buckley and Misty Blue Coat of Mobridge; one brother, John Buckley of Ft. Yates, ND; three sisters— Evelyn Good House of Ft. Yates, Donita Melettte of Rapid City and Stephanie Four Bear of Timber Lake; and eight grandchildren. A one night wake begins at 4 p.m. (MST) on Friday, February 6, 2015 at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in White Horse. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. (MST). Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. (MST) Saturday, February 7, at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, with Mother Margaret Watson and Rev. Norman Blue Coat officiating. Burial will follow at the Emmanuel Episcopal Cemetery at White Horse.

Kenneth Zane “Bobcat” Bruguier, Sr

Services for Kenneth Bruguier, 48, of Eagle Butte were held Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the C-EB High School  Auditorium. Burial was at Green Grass Congregational Cemetery under the direction of  Kesling Funeral Home of  Mobridge.Kenneth passed Monday, January   26, 2015 at the Rapid City RegionalHospital. Kenneth Zane “Bobcat” Bruguier, Sr. “WaCante Iyokpi” (Glad to See Everyone) was born on November 5, 1966 in Eagle Butte to Velma White Dog and Matthew Bruguier. He was raised in Green Grass by Marian and Martin Egna in his early childhood. Kenneth stayed with many families during his childhood and teen years. Kenneth worked cattle and horses for many families and was considered a hard working ranch hand. In 1986, he began a career in law enforcement, first as a deputy and then as a certified detention officer. He worked as a cook for the Vroomans at the Cheyenne Lounge and for Ron O’Hara at Dairy Queen.

Garnet W. Peterson

Mass of Christian Burial for Garnet Peterson, 91, of Aberdeen and formerly of Timber Lake will be at 10 a.m. MT on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Timber Lake. Burial will be in the Timber Lake Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Garnet passed away Saturday, January 24, 2015 at her home. Garnet Waive Lyons was born to Milton D. and Lillie Pearl (Rubeirt) Lyons on February 23, 1923 in Eugene, OR. Her family moved to Tucson, AZ where she grew up. She worked as a nanny, and as a telephone operator for the Mountain States Telephone Company during World War II. After the war ended she transferred back to Eugene to work for the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company. Garnet met Pat Peterson when he was stationed with the Army Air Corps in Tucson, when her sister, May, started dating Pat’s brother Gorman. Garnet came to visit May, Gorman, and Pat in South Dakota, and reconnected with Pat, the love of her life.
