Herbert J. Lesmeister

Herbert J. Lesmeister, 89, of Belle Fourche, died Monday December 29, 2014 at the Belle Fourche Regional Senior Care Center, surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, January 5, 2015 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Belle Fourche. Interment took place in Black Hills National Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Belle Fourche Veterans Honor Guard. Herbert Joseph Lesmeister was born March 19, 1925 in Detroit, MI to Pius and Anna (Eberle) Lesmeister. At the age of two, Herbert moved with his family to Ridgeview, where he grew up on a family farm and
ranch. In 1942 he graduated from the Eagle Butte High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from March of 1945 until November of 1946. During this time he was stationed in Okinawa. On December 8, 1951 Herbert

Died December 17, 2014

Corrine M. High Elk, 81, of Eagle Butte passed away Saturday, December 7, 2014 at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. MT Monday, January 5, 2015 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte with Mother Margaret Watson presiding. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Episcopal Cemetery in Thunder Butte. There will be a procession from the 4 mile junction at 8 a.m. Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte has been entrusted with Corrine’s arrangements.

Mass of Christian Burial for Angeline Keller, 82, of Trail City will be 10:30 a.m. MT Friday, January 2, 2015 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Timber Lake. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery at Glencross under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be Thursday, January 1, 2015 starting at 5 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at the church. Angeline passed away Sunday, December 28, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Mobridge.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. MT on Monday, January 5, 2014 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Belle Fourche. Visitation with the family present will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, January 4 at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place in Black Hills National Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Belle Fourche Veterans Honor Guard.

Sylvia L. Fisher

Sylvia L. Fisher, 65, of Belle Fourche and formerly of Timber Lake died Thursday, December 11, 2014 at her home in Belle Fourche.Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mobridge. Funeral arrangements were with Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche and Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Sylvia Lucy O’Donnell was born February 10, 1949 in Mobridge to James and Marcella (Damberger) O’Donnell. She grew up in Mobridge where she graduated from high school in 1967. On December 2, 1968 she was united in marriage to James Fisher in Tigard, OR. To this union two children were born, Michael and Valerie. Following their marriage Jim and Sylvia moved to Shelton, WA and in 1982 they moved to Timber Lake where they owned and operated Fisher Hardware for many years. In 1991, Sylvia began working for the Dewey County Sheriff’s Office and her husband was sheriff.

Raymond “Ray” Johnson

Funeral services for Raymond “Ray” Johnson, 87, of Mobridge and formerly of Trail City were held Monday, December 15, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge with Rev. Elizabeth Jassman officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Ray passed away December 11, 2014 at Mobridge Regional Hospital. Ray Johnson was born on December 6, 1927 to A. E. “Buffalo” and Pearl Johnson on the family homestead located north of Trail City. He was one of 10 children. Ray attended a number of rural schools including Landeau and Spring Lake and finished 8th grade at the Maple Leaf School. He then began his ranching career which over the years grew to 15,000 acres and over 400 cows along with necessary farming to provide feed for those cows. The ranch included A. E. Johnson and sons John, Kenneth, Robert, and Ray, and sister Ramona.

Fr. Peter Kovarik

Fr. Peter Kovarik, 50, died on November 28, 2014 as the result of an airplane crash in eastern Montana. Christian wake services were Thursday, December 4, 2014 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Rapid City. Funeral Mass  was Friday, Dececember 5, at the Cathedral. Interment was at Pine Lawn Memorial Park. Peter Mark Kovarik was born to Marge and Richard Kovarik on January 7, 1964 in Rapid City. He   ttended Perpetual Help Grade School and graduated from St. Martin’s Academy in 1982. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and achieved Eagle Scout status. Peter studied at South Dakota School of  Mines & Technology in Rapid City and transferred to St. Mary’s College minor seminary in Winona, MN. He then attended the major seminary at Mount St. Mary’s in Emmitsburg, MD. Peter was ordained by Archbishop Charles Chaput to the priesthood for the Catholic Diocese of Rapid City on June 6, 1991.
