Rosemarie Senger Barton

Rosemarie Senger Barton, 80, passed away July 26, 2015. She was born March 19, 1935, the first child of Wendelin and Katie Senger of rural Glencross. Harsh farming conditions were eased when duties were shared with large family. There was always time for singing and harmonizing with her six siblings while doing chores. Rosemarie was swept off her feet and moved to El Paso, TX when she married Daniel O'Leary. They had four children: Randy, Kathy, Kelly and Danny. In 1976, she found her soul mate, Clarence Barton. They were married and moved to Irving, TX, and lived there until 1999, when they moved back to El Paso. Rosemarie found great comfort in the Catholic Church and was active at St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Parish. She welcomed the fellowship with other parishioners, and enjoyed singing in the choir. A choir trip to Germany was one of the highlights of her life.

Rosalie Thompson Maxwell

Rosalie Maxwell, 90, passed away peacefully in her home in Bakersfield, CA on July 24, 2015. Born September 19, 1924 in Marcus, SD, she was the 10th of 11 children of Edwin and Anna Thompson. The family later moved to Forest City, IA, where she graduated from high school. An adventurous spirit, at the age of 18 she packed a small suitcase and left Iowa on the train with her 20-year-old sister, Ruth, bound for southern California. The pair arrived in California one day, applied for jobs the next, and started work the day after at Douglas Aircraft. She helped build planes during World War II and was rightfully proud to call herself a “Rosie the Riveter” – earning 68 cents an hour. Having made only 10 cents an hour at her previous job, she thought she was rich. A woman ahead of her time, she attended college at UCLA, while working full-time, saved her money and purchased her first home in her 20s by herself, something unheard of in those days.
