William Tincup

Funeral services for William Tincup, 74, of Eagle Butte will be Friday, December 21, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis with Military Honors by Cheyenne River Veterans.

Prayer and comfort services were held December 19, 2018 at the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte.

Norman G. “Corky” Wortman

Norman G. "Corky" Wortman, 91, of Rapid City died Monday, December 3, 2018.

Norman was born June 14, 1927 to Joseph and Rose (Hand) Wortman at Isabel. He graduated from Isabel High School in 1945 where he was a standout athlete in football and basketball. Following high school Norman joined the United States Marines where he excelled at boxing. He returned to Isabel in 1948 to help on the farm.

Richard “Rick” Nelson

Richard “Rick” Nelson, 65, of Bowman, ND, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018 at his home. A memorial service and celebration of life were held Friday, December 7, 2018 at the Kresbach & Kulseth Funeral Home Chapel in Bowman.

Rick was born in Fargo, ND on June 6, 1953 to Nennor and Dorothy (Kamphaug) Nelson. Rick spent his early years working on the family farm near Hillsboro, ND. He was passionate about Hillsboro “Burro” sports, particularly the boys high school basketball team. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1971 and then attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. He graduated with a BA in Business Finance. He worked for a number of small banks in North Dakota and South Dakota before relocating to Bowman where he worked for First National Bank as a loan officer.

Bruce Bear Eagle Jr., 43, of Eagle Butte passed away Monday, December 10, 2018 at the I.H.S. Hospital, Eagle Butte.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. MT on Friday, December 14, 2018 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte with Mother Margaret Watson and Deacon Jim Marrs presiding. Burial will follow in the UCC Cemetery at Bridger.

Joann Edwards

Joann Edwards passed away November 17, 2018.

She was born on August 6, 1937 to Elfina Ingeborg Birkeland Njos and Erwin Llewellen Njos.

She attended school in Dupree, and graduated in 1955. She was always active in whatever musical activities were available. She attended Yankton College for one year and majored in music.

In 1956 she was married to Jim Edwards. They had three children, Kevin James, Deni Lynn, and Lisa DeAnn.

Hazel Sylvia Red Bird “Glí Yuké Wi”

Hazel Red Bird (Glí Yuké Wi - Comes Home To Stay Woman) was named after her grandmother, who followed Chief Sitting Bull (Lalá Tatáka Íyotaka) to Canada and then returned to settle on the newly-created Standing Rock Agency in 1881.

Hazel was a descendant of Phizí (Chief Gall), head of the Kaíska band of Húkpapa, and one of the first Episcopal converts on Standing Rock.

Her grandparents were Maurice Bearsheart Shoots The Bear, Maggie (Iron Horn) Shoots The Bear, William Red Bird, and Glí Yuké Wi.

Hazel was born at home in Wakpala on February 13, 1925. Her parents were Samuel Red Bird and Susan (Shoots The Bear) Red Bird.

She attended St. Elizabeth's Mission School, where she learned English, and went on to Wakpala High School.
