Boys on 5-game win streak

The Timber Lake varsity boys extended their winning streak to 5 games and their overall record to 12-5 with two wild wins over Newell and Crazy Horse last week and a road win at Eureka/Bowdle on Monday.

At Newell on Friday, Feb. 10, the Panthers won the game 48-46 when Isaac Kraft put in a last-second shot at the buzzer. At Crazy Horse the next day, the Panthers were down by as many as 22 points before they came storming back to win 78-77.

At Bowdle on Monday night, the Panthers built a substantial lead by halftime and held off the Patriots (4-13) for the victory. Only one game remains for the Panthers before the District 15B tournament, as they play at Tiospaye Topa on Feb. 24.

Lady Panthers fall to #4 Warner, bounce back at Bowdle

The Timber Lake Lady Panthers suffered their third loss of the seasonon Saturday at the Warner Classic, losing to Warner 52-34. Two games in two days and many miles of travel may have worn down the TLHS girls, as they had defeated the Irrigators at Newell 60-32 the night before.

Timber Lake holds a record of 15 wins and 3 losses with just one regular seas on game remaining before the District 15B tournament. The Panthers beat Eureka/Bowdle at Bowdle) 44-30 on Monday night and play at Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Feb. 17.

The District tournament begins Feb. 20, but Timber Lake will likely have a bye in the first round as one of the top-two ranked teams and will play at Lemmon on Tuesday, Feb. 21 when the semifinal round begins. With 43.88 seed points according to the S.D. High School Activities Association, Timber Lake figures to be the #1 or #2 seed in the district tournament. McIntosh (9-7) has 40.88 seed points and Lemmon (7-10) has 40.18.

Panthers take 3rd in LMC tourney

Harding County takes title

The Harding County Ranchers went from top seed to tournament champions of the Little Moreau Conference boys basketball tournament last week. Harding County went through #8 McIntosh in the first round, #4 Timber Lake in the semifinals and bested #2 Lemmon 69-65 on Saturday at the Lemmon Armory for the conference title.

Timber Lake hosted #5 Bison on Thursday and advanced to the semis with a 51-31 win. After falling to the Ranchers 59-41 on Friday at Lemmon, the Panthers finished out the tournament by defeating Faith 51-46.

Lady Panthers stop Standing Rock

The Timber Lake Lady Panthers won their second game in a row by defeating the Standing Rock (ND) girls varsity team at Standing Rock on Monday night.

Keisha Bailey scored a game-high 20 points for Standing Rock, but Timber Lake had four players score in double figures as the Lady Panthers used a 20-11 run in the last 8 minutes to pull away.

TLHS boys beat Dupree pre-LMC

District and conference foes Timber Lake and Dupree battled in a pre-LMC tournament contest in Dupree on Jan. 31, with the traveling Panthers beating the Tigers 74-48.

Brayden Pay Pay had another superb shooting night, as the sophomore nailed six 3-pointers and finished with 35 points. Raden Eagle Chasing helped Dupree keep pace with TLHS in the first half, as Raden scored 12 of his 21 points in the first half.

Panthers to host first round LMC game

The boys Little Moreau Conference Tournament takes place this week with games kicking off Thursday at the site of the four top-seeded teams.

 

Each first round contest on Thursday, Feb. 2, begins at 6:30 p.m. MT. The first round matchups are: #1 Harding County vs. #8 McIntosh, #2 Lemmon vs. #7 Dupree, #3 Faith vs. #6 Tiospaye Topa, #4 Timber Lake vs. #5 Bison.

Timber Lake moves up to 9A football

The South Dakota High School Activities Association recently announced its football classifications for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons.

 

Many schools across the state are moving up or down in class, and the new classifications will re-shape the football landscape for local districts as well.

Junior high boys playing well

The Timber Lake junior high boys basketball team has been rolling as of late, as they posted wins over Cheyenne-Eagle Butte and placed second in a tournament at Standing Rock.

 

TL recently beat CEB’s 8th grade team 33-28, with Hank Kraft scoring 14 points and getting 5 steals. Brandt Ducheneaux grabbed 8 rebounds.

Dupree girls hold winning record

The Dupree Tigers girls basketball team is above the .500 mark and on a 3-game win streak in the aftermath of the mid-season Little Moreau Conference tournament. Dupree’s girls have a record of 7 wins and 5 losses and won 2 of 3 in the LMC tournament. Following an 85-48 dismantling of Tiospaye Topa at home (JV won 37-36), Dupree entered the LMC tournament as the #4 seed but lost 56- 39 to #5 McIntosh in the opening round Thursday. In the consolation bracket, Dupree topped Tiospaye Topa 65-31 on Friday and then claimed 5th place by defeating Lemmon 55-47 on Saturday at Faith.
