Panthers survive thriller in Gettysburg

Article Image Alt Text

With just over three minutes left in the game Friday night at Gettysburg, Timber Lake trailed and was in danger of losing for the first time all season. But an incredible fourth quarter saw the Panthers, ranked #5 in the 9A poll, outshoot the Battlers 24-14 down the stretch and pull out a 48-44 win to move to 7-0 in 9-man football action. Cole Nafziger powered in a 1-yard touchdown with 3:02 on the clock to put Gettysburg on top for the second time in the game at 44-40, but Timber Lake’s potent offense had one more drive left in them. With 44 seconds on the clock, senior Tucker Kraft capped TLHS’s final scoring drive with a 6-yard TD run. It was Kraft’s second touchdown run of the game and he finished with 98 yards. Timber Lake thought it had already completed the comeback with 6:15 to play when a Ty Ducheneaux pass to Hank Kraft went for 70 yards and the Panthers re-took the lead at 40-36

4-whoa!

Article Image Alt Text

The Panther football team cruised to a fourth straight victory on Friday in Timber Lake, besting Harding County 58-6 in another game that was over at halftime. The latest in a string of dominant outings is probably the most impressive, considering Harding County was also 3-0 heading into the game, was ranked #5 in last week’s poll and had beaten the Panthers each fall on the gridiron for 11 years running.

There would be no 12th year for the Rancher’s streak on Friday, as the Panthers used explosive plays on offense and defense to run away early. Timber Lake outgunned Harding County on offense 409 yards to 104, forced the Ranchers into 3 turnovers and racked up 8 touchdowns.
