TLHS boys beat Dupree pre-LMC

District and conference foes Timber Lake and Dupree battled in a pre-LMC tournament contest in Dupree on Jan. 31, with the traveling Panthers beating the Tigers 74-48.

Brayden Pay Pay had another superb shooting night, as the sophomore nailed six 3-pointers and finished with 35 points. Raden Eagle Chasing helped Dupree keep pace with TLHS in the first half, as Raden scored 12 of his 21 points in the first half.

Panthers to host first round LMC game

The boys Little Moreau Conference Tournament takes place this week with games kicking off Thursday at the site of the four top-seeded teams.

 

Each first round contest on Thursday, Feb. 2, begins at 6:30 p.m. MT. The first round matchups are: #1 Harding County vs. #8 McIntosh, #2 Lemmon vs. #7 Dupree, #3 Faith vs. #6 Tiospaye Topa, #4 Timber Lake vs. #5 Bison.

Timber Lake moves up to 9A football

The South Dakota High School Activities Association recently announced its football classifications for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons.

 

Many schools across the state are moving up or down in class, and the new classifications will re-shape the football landscape for local districts as well.

Junior high boys playing well

The Timber Lake junior high boys basketball team has been rolling as of late, as they posted wins over Cheyenne-Eagle Butte and placed second in a tournament at Standing Rock.

 

TL recently beat CEB’s 8th grade team 33-28, with Hank Kraft scoring 14 points and getting 5 steals. Brandt Ducheneaux grabbed 8 rebounds.

Dupree girls hold winning record

The Dupree Tigers girls basketball team is above the .500 mark and on a 3-game win streak in the aftermath of the mid-season Little Moreau Conference tournament. Dupree’s girls have a record of 7 wins and 5 losses and won 2 of 3 in the LMC tournament. Following an 85-48 dismantling of Tiospaye Topa at home (JV won 37-36), Dupree entered the LMC tournament as the #4 seed but lost 56- 39 to #5 McIntosh in the opening round Thursday. In the consolation bracket, Dupree topped Tiospaye Topa 65-31 on Friday and then claimed 5th place by defeating Lemmon 55-47 on Saturday at Faith.

Lady Panthers take 2nd in conference tournament

Timber Lake, the defending champions of the Little Moreau Conference girls basketball tournament, fell on Saturday in the tourney finals to last season’s runner-up, the Faith Longhorns. Faith clinched a back-and-forth contest on their home court and won 55-47. The Longhorns used a 24-14 run in the fourth quarter, including 13 points from free throws on 18 attempts, to salt away the conference tournament win.

TLHS boys top Lemmon 69-57

Some clutch free throw shooting in the fourth quarter helped the Panthers hang onto a late lead and edge the Cowboys 69-57 in LMC and Dist. 15B boys basketball action. The Panthers made 14 of 19 free throw attempts in the final 8 minutes and 24 of 34 freebie tries for the game. Isaac Kraft made 8-of-8 free throw tries and had 10 of his 14 points in the fourth, as TLHS used a 23-14 run in the fourth to extend what had been a 46-43 lead after three quarters.

TLHS boys cruise past Takini

Timber Lake won their third straight varsity game at Takini Jan. 13. Brayden Pay Pay scored a season high 22 points for the Panthers, with Jackson Harrison and Tucker Kraft adding 14 points each. Isaac Kraft scored 12 points, Trey Bollinger 4, and Anthony Alley, Brady Hall and Nathan Swift 2 points each.

Panthers win 3 of 4 games in Saturday slate with Ranchers

Timber Lake hosted Harding County on Saturday, Jan. 14 for a four-game lineup of varsity and JV games between the boys and girls teams. The Panthers won the first three games in the series and it looked good for the Panther sweep early in the boys varsity game, but the Ranchers surged to defeat TLHS. Boys Varsity Harding County 46, Timber Lake 43 Timber Lake looked sharp early but a drought in the middle two quarters allowed the Ranchers to get back into the game and steal the road victory. The Panthers jumped out to an 11-7 lead after the first quarter, but Harding County outscored the home team 26- 14 in the second and third periods to lead 33-25 heading into the fourth.
