Maher, Webb leading in SDRA after Isabel performance

A strong turnout and cooperative weather made the annual Isabel Rodeo August 1-2 a success, as fans were treated to competition from some of the top cowboys and cowgirls in the state. On tap next on the South Dakota Rodeo Association (SDRA) circuit will be the Faith Stock Show & Rodeo August 7-9, the Bennett County Fair & Rodeo August 8-9 in Martin, and the Scottie Stampede August 8-9 in Scotland.

Jada Maher headed to NHSFR

Jada Maher, daughter of Cody and Tracy Maher of Cannonball, ND, a 10th grader at Flasher, ND, has earned a position on the North Dakota National High School rodeo team and will be traveling with fellow teammates to Rock Springs, WY, July 12-18 to compete at the 67th annual National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR) in the goat tying competition. Featuring more than 1,500 contestants from 42 states, five Canadian Provinces and Australia, the NHSFR is the world’s largest rodeo. In addition to competing for more than $200,000 in prizes, contestants will also be competing for more than $350,000 in college scholarships and the chance to be named an NHSFR National Champion.

Local cowboys, cowgirls headed to state high school rodeo next week

The three remaining regional high school rodeos were held in Dupree,Sturgis and Ft. Pierre over the weekend with more local competitors  qualifying for the South Dakota State High School Rodeo Finals to be held June 23-27 in Belle Fourche. To qualify for the state finals, competitors must score at least three points in an event. They may then carry over their top three scores or times to be added to their results in the finals to determine qualifying for the National High School Rodeo Finals

Area athletes compete at State ‘B’ Track Meet

Several athletes from Timber Lake, Dupree and McIntosh were among the competitors at the South Dakota State Class B Track Meet in Rapid City over the weekend, with McIntosh senior Kyle Mollman the only one to capture a medal. Mollman claimed a bronze medal for finishing third place overall in the high jump with a height of 6 feet. He also placed 23rd in the long jump with a distance of 17-11.75 and competed in the 400 meter run but did not qualify for the finals.
