Cross country team has eight varsity and JV runners ready

The 2014 cross country season saw the Timber Lake girls pull off some impressive year-end meets with a small crew of varsity runners: third in Region 4B and 10th at the State B meet. This season will be about fostering younger runners, especially early on. Head Coach Donna Aberle said eight runners are out so far this season. Most of them are junior high, but some may run varsity by the end of the season, depending on how they progress.

Panthers have new faces in key positions

The Timber Lake Panthers will have some new faces at key positions this season. Graduated senior running backs Tanner Kraft and Austin Pateneaude and multi-year starting quarterback Jett Peterson helped lead the Panthers to a 4-4 record last season. All four of TL’s 2014 losses were against teams that made the playoffs. But the Panthers will not be without returning starters or varsity experience, as the roster is loaded with seniors and juniors.

Maher, Webb leading in SDRA after Isabel performance

A strong turnout and cooperative weather made the annual Isabel Rodeo August 1-2 a success, as fans were treated to competition from some of the top cowboys and cowgirls in the state. On tap next on the South Dakota Rodeo Association (SDRA) circuit will be the Faith Stock Show & Rodeo August 7-9, the Bennett County Fair & Rodeo August 8-9 in Martin, and the Scottie Stampede August 8-9 in Scotland.

Jada Maher headed to NHSFR

Jada Maher, daughter of Cody and Tracy Maher of Cannonball, ND, a 10th grader at Flasher, ND, has earned a position on the North Dakota National High School rodeo team and will be traveling with fellow teammates to Rock Springs, WY, July 12-18 to compete at the 67th annual National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR) in the goat tying competition. Featuring more than 1,500 contestants from 42 states, five Canadian Provinces and Australia, the NHSFR is the world’s largest rodeo. In addition to competing for more than $200,000 in prizes, contestants will also be competing for more than $350,000 in college scholarships and the chance to be named an NHSFR National Champion.
