Waldon Luke Jewett, 55, of Pierre, was born to Alice (Fiddler) Jewett and Melvin Jewett on April 30, 1965, in Eagle Butte. He passed away at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre on Sunday, October 4, 2020. His funeral service was held

His funeral service was held Monday, October 12, 2020 at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre with burial at the family cemetery near Promise.

Waldon grew up in Timber Lake, where he excelled in basketball and track. Waldon began dating Lori (Yogi) Wishard and they later married and raised twin sons Kevin and Kerry, and daughter Kaylee Jo. Being a dad and grandpa was his pride and joy. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren. You would always find him at their sporting events, playing basketball with them, camping, weekend family cookouts, and holidays.

He began working at Pierre Indian Learning Center in November of 1986 in the maintenance department and worked there until the time of his death. Waldon loved all the kids at PILC and would go out on his days off to spend time with them. Students stopped by the house over the years to talk with Waldon. During his adult years he enjoyed softball, basketball, pool, and bowling. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing at Promise, attending powwows, going to the casino, playing cards, watching the Lakers or Miami Dolphins, and spending time with family. He was such a good Papa, and his eyes would light up when the grandchildren came to the house. He enjoyed attending and watching his grandchildren’s events. He was known for always handing out candy and gum.

Waldon spent much of his free time at Promise with his brother Mike and enjoyed being outdoors with his dog Roscow, who went to heaven a day after him. He always had a joke to share, or humor to lighten the mood. He was known for fixing children’s bikes in the neighborhood and loved dressing up to scare trick or treaters on Halloween. Kids would make sure to come to Waldon’s house on Halloween because he gave out cans of pop and big candy bars.

To almost everyone that Waldon met, he made a big impact on their life. He only offered words of encouragement and kindness. To many people who were without a father figure, Waldon stepped in and filled that role. He loved children and spent much of his time trying to better the lives of those who needed it. He often told people that he had 200 kids, because he claimed so many children as his own. He was hard-working, compassionate, caring, funny, kindhearted, and full of life. His laugh would light up any room. People often told his children how lucky they were to have such a great dad.

Blessed to have had him in their life are his wife Lori “Yogi” Jewett; son Kevin Bader (Lacy); daughter Kaylee Jo (Myles); mother Alice Jewett; siblings Stephen Jewett (Aggie), Mike Jewett, Roger Jewett, Colleen Edelman (Rus), Nina Schumacher (John), Jennifer Jewett, Joe Jewett, Janet Hensley (Wes), and Tonya Looper; granddaughters Joey Jae, JoRayah, Thalia Jo and Natawnee Rose; grandsons Tayten and Jerrick; mother-in-law Myrna Fiddler; and numerous other family and friends.
