  • In response to the shortage of affordable housing in rural communities, South Dakota Housing Development Authority created the DakotaPlex Program. DakotaPlex units are built by the prison inmates at the Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield. Units are based off of the Governor's Houses and are one, two and three bedroom units to be used as a duplex, triplex or quadriplex.

The housing studies conducted this summer and fall for Timber Lake and Isabel includes some data from Applied Geographic Solutions (AGS), a private reporting service. The AGS data showed Timber Lake with 498 residents in 2019, an increase of 55 people since the 2010 Census. The Census Bureau’s annual estimate shows a nearly identical total with 499 residents.
