The Timber Lake Fire Department was called out to a large prairie fire northeast of Wakpala on Monday, June 21, where local firefighters assisted departments from Mobridge, Trail City, McLaughlin, Fort Yates and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. About 163 acres burned in the blaze, which was pushed by a mild but steady breeze. No cause for the fire has been determined.
