Rodeo: Prairie City cowboy 2nd at Cattle Call Rodeo in California

Prairie City steer wrestler Taz Olson banked more than $3,000 in winnings the weekend of Nov. 12-14 with top three finishes at events in Las Vegas and California.

Olson tied for third place at the Las Vegas Days Rodeo with a 3.9 second run that paid $1,355 and finished second overall at the Brawley Cattle Call in Brawley, CA, with a 4.9 second go to collect $2,049 in prize money.

Also competing in Brawley was Philip saddle bronc rider Jacob Kammerer, who finished eighth with a 69 point ride on Cowboy & Kids to collect $144.

Rodeo Club into 2022

The Timber Lake High School Rodeo Club heads into the new year with nearly 20 members, including eight seniors led by President Tessa Goldade and Vice-President Chazz Gabe, both of Timber Lake. Other seniors include Dixon Booth, Jayce Lawrence, Jaiden Ducheneaux and Ethan Goldade, all of Timber Lake; Logan Van Well of Selby and Kalvin Netterville of Mobridge.

Seven juniors on the roster include Tobi Hintz of Timber Lake, who serves as secretary. She’s joined by Thane Keller, Isaiah Ducheneaux and Slater Ducheneaux, all of Timber Lake; and Acacia Anderberg and Holden Eiseman, both of Mobridge. Sophomore team members are Gracen Hansen and Kenlea Heck, both of Timber Lake; and freshmen include Brelan Maher of Timber Lake; Mark Sandquist of $ $ Trail City and Cedar Anderberg of Mobridge.

Gov. Noem to speak at PRCA convention

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem will be the keynote speaker at the

2021 PRCA Convention in Las Vegas, NV, on Wednesday, Dec. 1.

The gathering of PRCA members precedes the biggest event on ProRodeo’s annual calendar, the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Tom Glause, chief executive officer of the PRCA, said the organization chose Noem to speak because “she appreciates the work ethic of our cowboys and what they represent.”

Included in the highlights of the convention will be the 14th annual Wrangler Gold Buckle Gala honoring Spearfish native and ProRodeo Hall of Fame saddle bronc rider Clint Johnson.
